As an entrepreneur, coach, and media leader, people often ask me what drives me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by media production and storytelling. Growing up in Hong Kong, I would record songs and stories on cassette tapes, and later went on to work at radio stations, where I trained as a DJ and presenter. My passion for media and communication has been a constant thread throughout my life, and it continues to inspire me to this day.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work at some of the biggest Fortune 500 media and technology companies, including FOX (formerly STAR TV), Dolby Laboratories, and Twitter (Greater China content and media lead). As I progressed in my career, I found myself drawn to the challenge of helming initiatives in digital content and making alliances happen. My competitive spirit and passion for alliance-making led me to lead the first-ever “”Voice of China”” TV show using Dolby broadcast technology, a significant achievement that remains one of my most memorable career highlights.
In my professional journey of the past two decades, I’ve witnessed the media industry evolve from linear technology to going digital, with the rise of emerging Asia. Working with prominent international media and credible names in Silicon Valley, including Twitter and Times Internet, as well as family-owned media businesses, I’ve helped these organizations scale their networks and grow their presence in the region.
Despite my accomplishments, there have been moments of reinvention along the way. After creating my own startups across interactive television, digital art sales, and even a food social network “”EATIZEN””, I moved into the creatively satisfying, non-stop frenzy of the content business and an intensely challenging corporate role at Twitter. These experiences helped build my risk-taking appetite and added to my skills in media training and executive coaching.
In 2019, I decided to take a leap of faith and become an executive coach. I am accredited by the International Coaching Federation and a certified Facilitator for Cultural Intelligence by the Cultural Intelligence Center, working with tech start-up founders, international tech corporations, consumer brands, public organizations, and creative entrepreneurs. Coaching has given me a chance to help leaders grow and succeed, while also fueling my passion for media and storytelling.
I created this blog so that I can share my stories, or just random thoughts along this journey. My journey of reinvention has taught me that passion and determination can lead to incredible opportunities. As I continue to pursue my passion for media and communication, I’m reminded of the importance of staying true to myself and constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow and learn.
In conclusion, my journey of reinvention has been driven by my passion for media and communication. From cassette tapes to executive coaching, my career has been defined by my willingness to take risks and pursue my dreams. As I continue on this journey, I’m excited to see where it takes me next, and I hope that sharing my experiences can inspire others to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.
