Jan Kot was born and raised in Shanghai, educated in Hong Kong and the United States. With a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in creative writing, she has spent her career at the intersection of storytelling, global communication, and cross-border transformation. She began her career as a journalist, working for leading news and business publications across Asia. Her reporting focused on China’s social and cultural evolution, particularly in the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. She was also among the first Chinese writers to cover the Chinese diaspora and business ventures in Africa.
Jan is a seasoned intercultural storytelling & TED speaker coach and communication trainer. She regularly works with senior executives across sectors, coaching them on impactful communication and personal narrative. She was previously a guest lecturer at HKU SPACE Institute for China Business, where she taught strategic storytelling to professionals. As Executive Advisor and Speaker at TCP Growth, Jan brings a unique edge in bridging linguistic, cultural, and business gaps between mainland China and Hong Kong — a space where she has lived, worked, and thrived for over two decades.
